Why Your May Need Asbestos Removal
During the 1930s and 1940s, asbestos became a popular component in concrete roofs. Factories produced large quantities of asbestos-impregnated roofing materials because of their superior qualities - it is both a strong, durable and effective insulator.
But with the new science of the 1970s and 1980s, it became clear that asbestos was a hazard product and manufacturers stopped using it in their roofs. However, that was not the end of the story: there were already millions of buildings across the country with asbestos roofs already installed, which presented a hazard.
So long as concrete asbestos roofs are not cracked or damaged in any way, then they are safe. However, over time, asbestos roofs age like any other and can become damaged by weather. When they are, they run the risk of releasing dangerous asbestos fibres into the environment, potentially harming the health of the people who use the building below. Asbestos fibres are carried by air and can then be inhaled into the lungs, causing asbestosis, pleural thickening and lung cancer. When this happens, asbestos removal is essential.

Step 1: Create a Work Method Statement

Step 2: Put Up Warning Barriers

Step 3: Sealing Asbestos
We will seal the asbestos inside the concrete using a variety of methods, including PVA paint.
Step 4: Careful Lowering of Sheets
Once the asbestos sheets are sealed, we then use specialised equipment to lower them down to the ground so that they don’t break and release asbestos fibres into the atmosphere.
Step 5: Remaining Asbestos Removed with Approved Vacuums
Asbestos roofing can fail, and the roof sheeting break down into smaller particles that can’t be removed by hand. We use specialist, approved vacuum equipment to remove any remaining asbestos particles from your domestic or commercial premises.
Step 6: Wrap Waste Asbestos for Safe Disposal
Handling asbestos is dangerous at every stage of removal. To ensure that asbestos can do no further damage, we wrap it in approved polyethene plastic to prevent any additional fibres escaping the material.
Step 7: Dispose of Asbestos Removal Equipment
Unfortunately, asbestos removal equipment such as gloves, masks and coveralls cannot be reused due to the nature of the asbestos hazard. We dispose of all our asbestos removal equipment once the job is done.
